How to Match Anything to Your Home Aesthetic

In my opinion, the power of a new vase with some pretty stems is unmatched, but spending $40 or $50 on the lower end for a new vase all the time can put a dent in the budget when it doesn’t have to. Thrifting or even taking inventory of pieces you already own is an affordable way to refresh your home.

With a little paint and baking soda (optional), you and transform an inexpensive vase or something you already have on hand into a brand-new piece of décor. You can actually try this hack with anything you want to give some new life to.

By shopping my own house, I found an outdated vase, an old tea set, some Target dollar spot pumpkin tchotchkes, and a small faux pre-potted plant container that I wanted to give facelifts.

By simply mixing baking soda with any paint, you can turn any tired or mismatched items into a cohesive collection with a beautiful texture. If you don’t dig the look of the texture, you can simply skip that step.

When it comes to adding the baking soda, there isn’t an exact measurement, it’s all about how much texture you want. With that said, if you end up with a super thick paste, the paint won’t adhere and will end up falling or sliding off. Any consistency other than that should be fine.

For the cost of a paint sample, I was able to turn some items I had outgrown aesthetically into pieces that now bring me joy when displayed.
